![]() ![]() Get where I'm coming from? Are we really expected players like me - who have never played a Persona game before - to catch onto Maruki's storyline when Takemi's story is so good, and Kawakami's story is so good, and Hifumi is probably a favorite for waifu, and I want to know where Ohya's story goes, and I also want to max out the Phantom Thieves because their stories are great, and playing darts and billiards gives bonuses, etc.? There's so much content thrown at the player. I thought I couldn't possibly be locked out of the expansion seeing as the expansion is probably the biggest reason why Royal even exists. I thought I could prioritize others and come back to him later because other stories are more interesting in the beginning. ![]() I just didn't know that I had to MAX HIM OUT before he left. Bring on the hate, but, to me, this is an 8/10 at best.īut I DID hang out with him. So while I do see all the parts of the game that make reviewers say it's the best JRPG ever, the fact that you have to play a 170+ hour game TWICE (including vanilla if you played that first) or use a guide to fully experience it shaves off a whole bunch of good will for me. An entire block of the game, arguably the biggest reason to buy P5R, is out of my reach because of.a time limit and a boring Confidant. The thought soured my whole opinion of the game. ![]() Having to go through the entire game again just to complete Confidant stories and play the expansion (which has the real ending, apparently?) feels like unnecessary padding for someone who doesn't know what he's doing. My current Personal 5 Royal playtime (I'm at Shido's Palace) is at 170+ hours already. Hell, I completed Mass Effect 2 8 times for different classes in preparation for Mass Effect 3. You have a game with so much content and you lock a lot of it behind.a time limit. Worse, I found out that I would not have enough time to max out all the Confidants I did invest time with. I mean, be honest, if you went into P5R blind - without having played vanilla P5 - would you willingly hang out with Maruki when others are available? Only near the end did I find out (from a friend) that the Royal-exclusive expansion can only be unlocked by maxing out Maruki's Confidant rank. I ranked him up all the way to 6, but he was SOOOOOOOOOO boring that I would usually just hang out with other available confidants rather than him. I also basically ignored the lesser interesting Confidants so that I could see the full story for the Confidants I did like within the time limit. But at the back of my mind, I knew time was limited. I was having a blast because the gameplay elements are fun and the stories are great. I hung out with the Confidants I found most interesting, maxed out my social stats, tried all activities at least once, completed requests in Mementos, and got really into Fusing Personas. But I tried to "role-play" the game the best I could and go in blind (without any guides). So maybe the whole time limit being something new for me for JRPGs threw me off a bit.
